On June 19, the 123rd U.S. Open, a major golf tournament with a prize of $20 million, concluded at the North Course at Los Angeles Country Club.

American golfer Wyndham Clark, 29 years old, emerged as the champion, shooting a 70 on Sunday and finishing with a total score of 10-under-par 270 to claim victory and the $3.6 million prize.

Clark expressed to dedicate his win to his late mother, who passed away from breast cancer in 2013.

On the final day, Wyndham Clark and Rickie Fowler, tied for the lead, played together in the same group with a total score of -10. Clark took an early lead on the opening hole, making a birdie to reach -11 and claim the solo lead.

Both Clark and Fowler made bogeys on the 2nd hole, while Rory McIlroy, playing ahead of them, birdied the 1st hole but stumbled on the 2nd hole, maintaining his score at -10.

This allowed Clark and Fowler to remain tied for the lead. However, Clark regained his sole lead with a birdie on the 4th hole, returning to -11.

He continued to extend his lead by birdieing the 6th hole, reaching -12. Despite a bogey on the 8th hole, Clark held on to a one-stroke lead as his contenders struggled.

On the 14th hole, after a birdie, Clark reached -12 again, while McIlroy bogeyed, increasing Clark's lead to three strokes.

Clark encountered two consecutive bogeys on the 15th and 16th holes, reducing his lead to just one stroke. The championship remained uncertain until the 18th hole, where both players played conservatively.

After McIlroy finished the 18th hole with a par, Clark approached the final green. With a steady performance, he sank a short bogey putt to secure the championship.

Clark, born in December 1993 and hailing from Denver, Colorado, turned professional in 2017.

This year, he won his first US Open title at the Wells Fargo Championship in May, which propelled him up the world rankings and secured his spot in the U.S. Open.

At the tournament, he showcased his skill by triumphing over numerous renowned players and claiming his first major trophy.

Northern Ireland's McIlroy finished as the sole runner-up, just one stroke behind Clark, with a four-round total of 65-67-69-70.

England's Tommy Fleetwood, with an impressive 63 on Sunday, surged into a tie for fifth place.

Fleetwood achieved two eagles and four birdies on the course, and had he not missed a bogey on the 16th hole, he would have equaled the tournament's best score of 62.

Rickie Fowler, aged 34, also tied for fifth place with a four-round total of 275 after a 75 on Sunday.

The 2023 U.S. Open has concluded, and the event will return to Pinewood Golf and Country Club in 2024.
