Disko Bay is Greenland's top destination year-round, attracting visitors with its stunning landscapes.

Ilulissat is famous for it's impressive Ice Fjord, but there’s much more to explore.

Qeqertarsuaq offers breathtaking scenery and abundant whale sightings, while Aasiaat is a haven for kayaking enthusiasts. For an unforgettable stay, consider the Glacier Camp Eqi or Ilimanaq Lodge. In winter, dog sledding and the northern lights are the major draws.

Disko Bay: Greenland's Natural Wonders

Disko Bay is Greenland's largest bay, renowned for its stunning landscapes and vibrant wildlife. At the center of the bay is Disko Island, Greenland's largest island (after the mainland), home to four picturesque towns: Ilulissat, Qeqertarsuaq, Qasigiannguit, and Aasiaat. To the north of the bay lies Uummannaq, famous for it's heart-shaped mountain.

Whale Watching in Disko Bay

Disko Bay is a prime location for whale sightings. Several whale species frequent the bay, especially during the summer months when they migrate from the Caribbean Sea. The waters around Ilulissat Ice Fjord and Qeqertarsuaq offer fantastic opportunities to see these majestic creatures up close, often right near the shore.

Dog Sledding Adventures

Disko Bay is a hub for dog sledding, offering thrilling winter rides across the ice and hills. The region is known for it's abundance of sled dogs, and winter tours are particularly popular for their combination of exhilarating sledding and the chance to witness the mesmerizing Northern Lights.

Ilulissat: The Gateway to Disko Bay

Ilulissat, the largest town in Disko Bay, is the perfect starting point for exploring the region. Named after the Greenlandic word for iceberg, Ilulissat is home to the UNESCO-listed Ilulissat Ice Fjord, where towering icebergs create a breathtaking spectacle. The town is ideally located near the fjord, offering spectacular views from nearly every corner. Many tour packages to the West Coast include Ilulissat as a highlight.

Qeqertarsuaq: The Volcanic Island

Qeqertarsuaq, also known as Disko Island, is an island of striking contrasts. Unlike much of Greenland, Qeqertarsuaq is made up of volcanic rock, giving it a lush and unique landscape filled with basalt mountains and rock formations. This area offers a magical atmosphere with hiking opportunities and the chance to explore the island’s diverse terrain.

Uummannaq: The Heart-Shaped Mountain Town

Located just north of Disko Bay, Uummannaq is famous for its heart-shaped mountain that rises dramatically above the town. The island offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere, with many of the town's homes perched on cliffs connected by a network of walkways. Uummannaq is also known for it's connection to the Danish Christmas TV show Nissebanden in Greenland ("Santa’s Elf Gang"), with Santa’s Workshop located here.

Aasiaat and Qasigiannguit: Adventure and Culture

Aasiaat, known for it's large archipelago, is a popular spot for kayaking and adventure. The town also has several educational institutions and is home to artwork by renowned Danish artist Per Kirkeby. Nearby Qasigiannguit is perfect for hiking and offers an interesting living museum showcasing how the Inuit once lived. The summer months are great for whale watching here as well.

Glacier Lodge Eqi & Ilimanaq Lodge: Unique Accommodations

Two extraordinary lodges offer unforgettable stays in Disko Bay. Glacier Lodge Eqi, located 80 kilometers north of Ilulissat, offers a front-row seat to the Eqi Glacier, where guests can enjoy a glass of drink while listening to the thunderous sound of the ice breaking. Ilimanaq Lodge, situated 15 kilometers south of Ilulissat, features 15 cabins built on cliffs near Ilulissat Ice Fjord. Guests here can experience life in one of Greenland’s oldest settlements while enjoying breathtaking views.
